To Our Valued Customers,
The Board of Directors of Dorchester County Water Authority has deemed it necessary to adjust our rates to keep pace with the record growth in our area. The Board did not take this decision lightly and hired Thomas & Hutton to complete a rate study. Thomas & Hutton began the survey on May 24th, 2024, and presented their findings to the board in February of 2025. They concluded that, due to the numerous projects and continued growth in Dorchester County, water supply demands and water storage necessities, as well as road widening projects (which will require water line replacements in easements), a rate increase is the only way to finance these costly expenditures. Dorchester County Water Authority has actively pursued grants and any available funding for our area.
Beginning on July 1, 2025, we will implement an annual increase of 10% of the base rate and a 20%
increase in the per 1,000 gallon rate you are currently paying. The rate increase will take effect on July 1, 2025, and will be applied annually on July 1 for the next five years. Future increases may or may not be implemented based on the economy and administrative discretion.
We are notifying our customers as soon as possible to help with budget concerns. Communication on our website and messages on bills will keep you updated and will serve as a reminder to update your payment choices.
