Delinquencies and Disconnects

March 25, 2019

Dorchester County Water Authority bills are due upon receipt. Payments received after the 10th of each month are considered late. Accounts with late payments are considered delinquent. DCWA reserves the right to issue notices, apply additional fees, or interrupt the service of any delinquent account. Typically accounts scheduled for disconnect are 30+ days past due. In some cases, accounts with large balances or that have not paid or met the requirements of previously made payment arrangements may be disconnected prior to the 30-day delinquency.

Example: A payment was posted in Dec. 2018. There was no payment in January or February. The account would now be on the March disconne list. A $25 delinquent fee will be added to the account. The customer’s water will be turned off.

Once an account is disconnected for non-payment the responsible party will have to pay the entire account balance in full to have services reconnected. This includes delinquent fees, any arrangements, and the current month’s bill. The account must have a zero (0) balance before reconnection will occur.

Customers that make partial payments on accounts are more likely to incur additional fees. Please make sure to pay your account balance in full in order to avoid additional costs or risk of service interuption. Monthly delinquent notices are sent to customers whose accounts are past due on the 11th or the first business day after the 10th of the month.

Example: A partial payment was accepted in January with a remaining balance of $25.00, no payment was made in February. The customer would then receive a late notice in February. If the account is not paid in full by the date on the delinquent notice the account would then be disconnected and incur additional fees.
